The Mojave Experiment

Old news, but I feel I need to chime in my two cents about this ad campaign. For those who don’t know what its all about, The Mojave Experiment is a campaign by Microsoft to prove that all of the “hate” towards Windows Vista is baseless claims. They collected a group of people, sat them in front of a computer, told them they were testing a new version of Windows, after they were “amazed” it was revealed to them that they were actually using Windows Vista. But heres my problem, these people never actually had the Vista experience everyone knows and hates. How so? Well first off, Microsoft was doing it, they had their techs there and the computers the random people were using were fine-tuned by the Microsoft techs beforehand. Secondly, these people never had to install anything, hardware or software. What does that translate into?

Tell you what, Microsoft. Give them a new laptop or desktop from Dell or HP with Vista on it, let them play with it for a week, then we’ll see how “amazed” they are with your OS, or heck, have them install the OS and get it online.

How To Download A Song From Seeqpod Without Registering

As you probably remember from earlier this month, I discussed a website called Seeqpod which allows you to listen to mp3s you search for over the internet. The problem with the site is that if you want to download anything you need to register with their website and that can raise a whole bunch of privacy questions in our sue-happy media days we’re currently in. So you think its pretty pointless being there because you can’t save the file. This actually isn’t 100% true though, theres alot of methods to retrieve music files and I’ll go over one.

Sorry, I needed at least one blog post like this :P

AntiVir

Most already know of this program, but for the uninitiated AntiVir is a free personal Anti Virus program developed by Avira, a company based in Germany. For the most part their anti virus software is pretty good, and I started using it over 5 years ago on Windows 98. Some people blast AntiVir saying NOD32 is better, and I guess it is, but I’m not big on the whole yearly payment scheme, thats just BS in my opinion, and I know you could download NOD32 and crack it, but it seems to me that AntiVir is a great way to avoid those hassels. The only problem I’ve had with AntiVir is the annoying advertisements they have pop up when its performing an update, luckily there is a fix for that. I strongly recommend that if you’re looking for a decent free anti virus that you give AntiVir a try.

Logo Edit

So yeah, quick change made to the logo, added the “chibbi” version of myself that was done at ACEN, I wish I could remember the name of the woman that did the art work, but she managed to hammer that out in five minutes. I know, it looks like a horrible cut and paste job, but you know what I really don’t care :P

Online Music Search and Player

This is an interesting site I’ve been playing around with for a while now, its a site where you can search for music and it will give you a list of results plus it will let you add it to the site’s very own music player. It works fairly well and so far I’ve had little to no problems with it. The only issue I have with the site is you cannot save the playlist or the MP3s unless you register with their site, and according to their privacy policy they will hand your account details over to the authorities if requested. So overall, good site, just don’t register.

Linux! Do You Know It?!

So yeah, been seeing some god awful butchering with regards to Linux lately and I would just like to kindly point out that Linux does not consist of just Ubuntu nor does it consist of just Fedora or Red Hat. If you would kindly look it up you would find that there are hundreds of Linux distributions out there, like Gentoo or OpenSuSE. So folks, lets stop pretending Ubuntu/Red Hat/Fedora are the only definitions of Linux please, thanks.

Someones Gonna Pay!

Hmm, you have a point.
